High Speed vs High Torque Electric Unicycles

By now, you must have realized that most high-spec EUC models come in two variations: High Speed and High Torque.

Making an informed decision on why go for one versus the other can be daunting.

High-torque electric unicycles are ideal for riders looking to accelerate and decelerate faster while High-Speed EUCs are perfect for riders looking for moderate acceleration as they enjoy higher cruising and top speeds.

When it comes to power consumption, High-Torque EUCs tend to deplete their batteries faster than High-speed models because more energy is needed for faster acceleration and deceleration.

Why Opt For A High-Speed Electric Unicycle?

Perfect For Speed Lovers

One of the main attractions of high-speed electric unicycles is their ability to achieve impressive speeds, often reaching up to 40-50 mph or even higher. This makes them one of the fastest personal electric vehicles available.

For adrenaline seekers, this speed provides an exhilarating experience akin to high-performance motorcycling but with the added advantage of compactness and maneuverability.

These Rides Are More Affordable

Generally, High-Speed electric unicycles are more affordable than their High-Torque counterparts.

If you visit different retailers, you will see that these models are cheaper by $200 or even more.

If you want to save some bucks off your purchase, the HS versions are your best option to consider.

Better Battery Consumption

Since High-Speed EUC versions don’t have a high energy demand for more acceleration, the battery gets depleted more slowly.

In the long term, there are fewer charging cycles, which means the battery’s longevity is more enhanced.

Why Go For A High-Torque EUC Model?

Better Hill-climbing Ability

The primary benefit of high-torque electric unicycles in hill climbing is their ability to provide a consistent and reliable riding experience even on challenging terrains.

Riders can enjoy the freedom of exploring a wider range of environments without worrying about the limitations of their device.

High-torque models offer improved acceleration and control, making it easier to navigate uphill paths without losing momentum. This capability also translates to better performance on uneven terrains, where maintaining balance and stability is crucial.

The added torque improves safety by reducing the likelihood of sudden stalls or loss of control when tackling steep inclines.

Riders can confidently maneuver through challenging paths, knowing their unicycle is equipped to handle the demands of the terrain.

This assurance is crucial for those who frequently encounter hills in their daily commutes or leisure rides, providing peace of mind and an overall more enjoyable experience.

This Wheel Is Perfect For Riders Interested In Faster Acceleration

High-torque motors are designed to deliver greater rotational force, which results in more immediate and powerful acceleration.

Unlike High-Speed motors that may take a moment to build up speed, high-torque motors respond quickly to rider input, allowing for rapid acceleration from a standstill or while in motion. This characteristic is crucial for riders who enjoy the thrill of quick take-offs and agile maneuvering.

How Is The Range Between The Two Versions?

From my experience riding the two electric unicycle versions, there is no difference in range per single charge.

While the High-Torque version seems to draw more power for acceleration, the top speed isn’t high, which leads to long-range before the battery gets fully depleted.

For the High-Speed version, less power is used for acceleration, and regardless of hitting the maximum speed per charge, you will cover long range as well before the battery can get juiced up.
