When you go through the different Radster Road Electric Bike reviews, you’ll notice that most reviewers focus on the positives, and rarely say anything negative about this e-bike.
Here at Eride Corner, we do things differently.
We compile the different complaints about a specific electric ride and bring them to you in a single article to help you make an informed decision based on what real owners think after owning the ride for several days or weeks.
For this electrically-assisted bike, it comes in two versions based on the rider’s size:
- Radster Road Regular (ideal for riders 4’11”-5’8″)
- Radster Road Large (ideal for riders 5’7″-6’4″).
According to owners, these are the common reasons why you should consider avoiding this electric bike and the brand:
The Radster Road Is Heavy
For a commuter electric bike, the Radster Road is one of the heaviest e-bikes out there.
For reference, this model weighs 75 lbs (34 Kg) with a battery, and 32 Kg (66.5 lb) without a battery.
While it’s understandable that the battery and the motor might be responsible for making this ride so heavy, these are the reasons why it can be inconvenient when an electric bike weighs higher:
- If you need to carry the Radster Road electric bike upstairs or lift it onto a car rack, the extra weight can be a significant hindrance
- Heavier bikes require more power to move, which can lead to quicker battery depletion. This means shorter rides on a single charge and more frequent recharging. If you are on the heavier side, expect a lower range as this ride’s battery is just 15Ah 720 Wh
- If you are a big dawg, the added weight can make the Radster Road’s acceleration slower, which might be frustrating for riders looking for a quick and responsive ride.
Color Display Error Codes
According to Suzy who rated this e-bike a 1-star rating, this is what she had to say, “Built the bike and have been unable to use it because of a torque 15 error sensor. replacement part was sent and the bike still doesn’t work.
Taking it into a RAD store but nervous about fixing a brand new bike when we would prefer a replacement.
Unfortunately bought it for the summer and still can’t ride it.”
Upon checking the troubleshooting guides, Rad Power says this error is caused by moisture or a damaged cable leading between the wiring harness or throttle.
Since Suzy received a replacement and it didn’t work, we are still verifying if there are more owners with similar problems.
The Torque Is Too Strong
While strong torque is fantastic for quick acceleration and overall improved performance, it’s worth mentioning that the Radster Road comes with 100 Nm of torque.
Compared to the battery size of just 15Ah 720 Wh, this might sometimes be a disadvantage as this e-bike might sometimes, depending on the riding conditions, consume more energy leading to reduced battery life and increased charging frequency.
Again, this high torque to component ratio might place additional stress on components like the drivetrain, gears, and tires, leading to accelerated wear and potential damage.
Uncomfy Seat
Many owners confirmed that the attached Radster Road Electric Bike’s seat isn’t comfortable enough.
According to Richard, “The included seat is horrible. So uncomfortable and it really grabs your shorts/pants in the front bunching them up and as a guy making it really uncomfortable.”
As you are aware, an uncomfortable seat can make riding less enjoyable. Again, a poorly designed seat can lead to soreness, pain, and numbness in the buttocks, lower back, and groin area, especially during long rides. Hopefully, Rad Power can address this issue ASAP.
In Summary
While the Radster Road electric bike is one of the most decorated 2024 models out there, knowing some of the complaints from users is ideal for you to make an informed buying decision.
We will keep updating this article should more complaints from owners arise.
